A Royal Lunch exhibition.
A Royal Lunch. A visita a Sintra da Rainha Alexandra do Reino Unido, inaugurou no Palácio Nacional de Sintra, com a colaboração do Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, e da Associação de Residências Reais Europeias no âmbito do 2018 Ano Europeu do Património Cultural, e é uma exposição definitivamente a não perder.
No dia 24 de Março de 1905, almoçaram nesta mesa e neste espaço, 40 pessoas, entre elas e ao centro, o rei D. Carlos, a rainha D. Amélia, a rainha D. Maria Pia e a rainha Alexandra, consorte do rei Eduardo VII do Reino Unido.

On March 24, 1905, 40 people dined at this table and in this space, among them and to the center, King Carlos, Queen Amelia, Queen Maria Pia and Queen Alexandra, consort of the king Edward VII of the United Kingdom.

Este almoço realizou-se em honra da rainha Alexandra, a convite da rainha D. Maria Pia, por ocasião da sua visita a Portugal, na Sala das Pegas, a única sala em todo o Palácio da Vila que conserva desde o séc. XV o seu nome original.
This lunch was held in honor of Queen Alexandra, at the invitation of Queen Maria Pia, on the occasion of her visit to Portugal, in the Sala das Pegas, the only room in the entire Palace of the Village that has preserved since the 15th century its original name.

Depois de uma extensa e rigorosa pesquisa, baseada em documentação manuscrita, periódicos, iconografia e literatura de copa e cozinha da época, de forma absolutamente inédita, esta exposição permite-nos ver pela primeira vez por dentro, a delicadeza, o requinte, e o enorme bom gosto, dessa Mesa Posta e sua envolvência, nesse dia de Março à 113 anos atrás.
After an extensive and rigorous research, based on handwritten documentation, periodicals, iconography and culinary literature and cuisine of the time, in an absolutely unprecedented, this exhibition allows us to see for the first time inside, the delicacy, the refinement, and the enormous good taste, of this Mesa Posta and its surroundings, in that day of March, 113 years ago.
Os serviços de prata, porcelana e cristal utilizados neste almoço, a disposição dos objetos de acordo com o designado "Serviço à Russa", o menu, a decoração floral, o programa de música que acompanhou o almoço, e todo o ambiente da sala, evocam e recriam claramente o eclético e primaveril almoço real.
The silver, porcelain and crystal services used at this luncheon, the arrangement of objects according to the so-called "Russian Service", the menu, the floral decoration, the music program that accompanied lunch, evoke and clearly recreate the eclectic and springy royal lunch.

Uma das características que mais aprecio na história, principalmente em Portugal porque temos documentação e muito do recheio original, é esta possibilidade de nos conseguirmos transportar para outros tempos, outros séculos, outras realidades, de conseguirmos imaginar como se terá realmente passado determinada situação. A Royal Lunch, é inquestionavelmente o resultado feliz de um esforço de muitos, para que a muitos mais seja permitida essa viagem, essa visão, dessas pessoas, ali sentadas a apreciaram aquele momento, que com o passar dos anos se tornou histórico.
One of the characteristics that I appreciate most in history, especially in Portugal because we have documentation and much of the original pieces, is the possibility of being able to transport to other times, other centuries, other realities, to be able to imagine how a situation has really happened. A Royal Lunch is undoubtedly the happy result of an effort by many, so that many more can experience a time travel, a vision, of these people, seated there appreciating that moment, which over the years has become historic.
