Interview and Styling by Susana Jacobetty

Hoje voltámos a falar.

Oksana Tkach is 20 years old, is in the first year of the course Political Science and International Relations, is a model at Central Models, and an actress.

She arrived in Portugal from Ukraine at the age of four, went to live in Evora in the Alentejo, where she had a happy and nlessed childhood. Played among nature, such as making paths to ants, climbing trees, riding horses, bike rides, whatever imaginings we may have of a child in the countryside, that are part of her green years. At that time, Oksana was a Tom boy. Later she came to Lisbon, and she lived alone with her younger brother, Miguel, who was 6 years old.

Two years ago we talked a little while, when she participated in one of the works of João de Bettencourt Bacelar, for the exhibition Identity and Circumstance. At that time, she told me briefly that she loved sports, she wanted very much to have a foundation to help disadvantaged children, she liked to travel, and one day give back to her parents the tremendous effort they have made for her, in order that she could have a better life.

Today, we talked again.

Descontraída e confortável no dia a dia.

Toda a situação do filme fez-me aprender uma lição, fez-me ver e perceber muitas coisas.

How was it for you, so young, to assume the responsibility of living alone with your brother?
At first it was not easy, very early I had to learn how to cook, do household chores and
essentially being a "mother". I see know that helped me to grow and to mature.

Do you think that somehow you lost the right to be an inconsequential teenager?
No, never inconsequential.

Why is it so important for you to create a foundation and help underprivileged
children, is it still a desire for the future?
Not so much create because there are already many foundations, i would like to integrate one. It is important to contribute and give a little of ourselves to those who have little or nothing. I will feel myself fulfilled as a person, if I can make a small difference in someone's life.

You taking the course in Political Science and International Relations, which path do you want to pursue professionally?
It is not well defined yet.

You said that you would like to one day be able to work at the UN. If you were in the position of António Guterresm as Secretary General of the United Nations, what would be the main measures you would take, given the state of the world and its current problems?
I find this a relatively complex question. I would say that in a period so troubled by international issues, it is necessary to affirm the importance of peace and cooperation to the 193 UN member states. Knowing that perpetual peace, in Kantiano point of view, is not attainable, considering the current reality. The UN must strive to prevent conflicts from escalating to the worse and ensuring the role of human rights as an essential issue (I point out here, the issue of Yemen, Syria and the Republic of Myanmar).

At the same time you continue to work as a model, what have you done lately?
Lately I have not worked so hard because of my studies, but I try to conciliate. The last
fashion work I did, was in Paris.

Do you have favourite stores and fashion designers?
I have no preferences, but I love Luis Onofre when it comes to shoes.

How do you like to dress? How do you define your style?
Relaxed and comfortable on a daily basis. My style depends on the mood I wake up with in the morning.

Have you ever lost your head with some piece of clothing or accessory?
No, I'm very spared and always buy what I think necessary.

What was the biggest extravagance you ever did in terms of styling?
Maybe painting my hair for a job a few weeks ago, which I always said that I would never do.
Sunglasses by Prada and Miu Miu.

Coat and t-shirt by Burberry.

You have now played as an actress, in the film The End of Innocence of Joaquim Leitão, where you stand out and shine. The scenes that you do are very strong, at some point you thought that maybe you did not have the courage to do them? Has anything changed in you?
No, I continue the same Oksana. The whole situation of the film made me learn a lesson, made me see and realize many things. I felt that I lived in a bubble, outside the reality of Inês. I have grown and evolved as a person.

Is the performance a path you want to follow?
My future is uncertain, there is no way to predict.

Inês, the character you play in the movie, could not be more different from you. How did you prepared yourself for the role?
During the filming I was accompanied by Rita Alagão, who helped me with the bases I needed, we did the lifting and interpretation of the character. I also had a lot of help from my colleagues who were already experienced and who supported me throughout the process, and from Joaquim, with whom we met before we started filming.

Did you have a friend who walked that path?
We all have secrets, but no, fortunately not.

What is your position on drugs?
I do not respect nor cease to respect who takes them but, I am clearly against it.

If your words made a difference, what would you like to say to teenagers who are faced with the opportunity to experience something that at that stage of life may seem cool and normal?
I would say to ponder their actions and the consequences that follow.

What is being cool to you?
Cool is to have a vibe of your own and inspire others "effortlessly" to do the same. It is to be different and sure of oneself.

Apart from your family, who are the people you most admire in they various areas?
The Dalai Lamas who have been devoted to peace since they were little and believe that we must be united to achieve this goal, and Angelina Jolie.

What sport or activity do you do at the moment?
At the moment, I do a lot of mental exercise ... studying .... ahaha. I play tennis and horse riding.

You are very focused, hard-working and with an extraordinary sense of family, what is your idea of happiness and perfect life?
Being a perfectionist I confess I know that perfection is something unattainable and consequently, happiness will never be perfect. From childhood I was conditioned to pursue the idea of "happy endings" that I saw in fairy tales and that is what I continue to dream about today. To find an enchanted prince and to live a love for all time, to have my family happy and to get closer to what is the maximum and perfect happiness, is to wake up one day and know that the world lives in peace.
